When I was in high school we lived on an old homestead in what is now a country club suburb of Beaverton, Oregon. Then it was considered w-a-y out in the country. The old farmhouse had a big swing on the front porch and it was against mother's religion to do any work on Sunday. Therefore I spent many hours sitting in the swing day dreaming. A mile away, across three hills, they had just opened the 'Super Highway' that went, straight as a string, from Portland to Seaside. I couldn't hear the sound of the cars nor see the people in them but I was sure they were happy and going to do something exciting. Harriette Fisher
The song "Far Away Places" was popular at that time and I  yearned to go to these places "with strange sounding names." They were "calling, calling me." And, I answered the  call. I've been to a lot of exciting places and done some pretty interesting things. To see pictures click on the word IMAGES in any index; for narrtive click on the word PLACES.
For the first nine years of my life we lived in a small town with lots of relatives that I fondly refer to as the clan. Following WWII we moved around a lot. I fled Oregon in 1957 and arrived in San Francisco in time to be a phony beatnik. At age 21, while living in Detroit, I accidentally got married. We quickly returned to the San Francisco Bay area and I started growing roots. My married name was Taylor and we did produce two beautiful children

We backpacked and fly fished in the Sierra's before it was popular and there were still some native fish to be caught. We took up bird watching and taxidermy, took a course from the Wine Institute of California, made frequent trips to the wine country and fancied ourselves connoisseurs. I called myself a gourmet cook as I started early in the afternoon and used a lot of beer and wine. Some of it even went into the pot. I rescued fruit going to waste on neighbor's trees and canned and made jams and jellies. My pear halves in port were a popular item. I helped start the Lamaze Method of natural childbirth in the nine bay area counties, joined the co-op, wore wooden shoes, long skirts, braids and participated in off beat political stuff. For many moons, living in Lafayette, I did the corporate, suburban housewife/mother bit - then I sobered up and the real adventure began. I've been an active member of AA for 31 years.

I moved to Martinez in 1973 and have lived at the same address, although certainly not the same house, since then. Sometime in my 40's I started college. I had no desire to go on to a 4-year school and had become addicted to black and white photography classes. At the age of 56 I became a certified SCUBA diver and discovered the wonderful world of underwater photography. It didn't take me long to find a bunch of people who are really good at it. Take a look at our web site www.ncups.org

As of this writing - July 2002 - I am planning to live in the Central American Country of Belize for eight months of the year. www.LongCayeBelize. I intend to spend November and December here in sunny northern California and who knows where I'll be the other two months.

I am passionate about a number of things and hope to share my enthusiasm with you. If you have any suggestion for ways to make it easier to navigate through this site or if you want to participate in any of my projects please let me know.
